The Personal Library

Every visitor gradually builds a library within the Library.

The public Library preserves knowledge. The Personal Library preserves the visitor's relationship to that knowledge.

A Knowledge Object does not become a favorite by itself. A visitor forms a favorite relationship with that object.

This distinction matters. The catalog describes permanent objects. The Personal Library preserves what happens when a living person encounters those objects.

What belongs to the Personal Library.

These are visitor relationships, not catalog properties.

Notes and reflections

Spoken or written marginalia attached to a library, collection, Knowledge Object, chapter, moment, or future personal collection.

Favorites and bookmarks

Ways a visitor marks what mattered and where they may wish to return.

Progress and history

Recently played items, listening progress, and the path a visitor has taken through the Library.

Independent personal collections.

Not every thought must attach to an existing Knowledge Object.

My Childhood

A shelf for memories that stand on their own.

Lessons Learned

A place for reflections gathered across many Knowledge Objects and many years.

Family History

A future home for stories, testimony, work, service, leadership, marriage, and hopes for those who follow.

The Personal Library is not a copy of the Library. It is a record of understanding.
